Description
This is a barn with an attached horse engine house, located about 30 metres north of Leigh Barton Farmhouse. It dates from the late 18th century and was altered in the mid-20th century. The structure is built of red sandstone random rubble and features a slate and corrugated roof that is hipped to the left. There are full-height double doors on the left side and a hexagonal horse engine house attached to the centre left. The barn has rectangular openings and pigeon loft holes above, with plank doors on the right that are accessed by an external flight of steps due to the sloping site. At the rear, there is a shelter shed with an extended catslide roof, which has been extensively altered in the 20th century, as has the interior. The barn is primarily listed for its group value with Leigh Barton Farmhouse and the adjoining stable to the south.
