Description
This linhay, located about 20 meters northwest of Higher Headborough Farmhouse on the opposite side of the road, dates from the 18th century to mid-19th century, specifically around 1840 or earlier. It is constructed of stone rubble with a cob upper storey, except for the left side wall, which is entirely made of stone. The roof is hipped and covered with corrugated iron. The lower part of the front features four monolithic granite posts, with two of the spaces between them now filled with red brick. The upper part is also covered with corrugated iron. There is a loading door to the loft in the left gable. Although the interior was not inspected, the roof trusses appear to be original, with collars pegged to the faces of the principal rafters. The linhay is depicted on the Ashburton Tithe Map of 1840, although it was not part of Higher Headborough Farm at that time.
