Description
Woodbrooke Cottage is a cottage and adjoining outbuildings, now serving as a house. The cottage dates from the 18th century, while the outbuildings are from the 19th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with cob, rubble, and brick stacks, and has an asbestos tile or slate roof, which was formerly thatch.
The original cottage features two rooms: a small unheated room to the right, which is now at the center, and a larger room with a large projecting stack in the left gable end. There is a cob party wall connecting to a former barn attached to the right end of the cottage, which has a 20th-century brick stack on the right gable end. A rear extension runs alongside the road.
The cottage is two storeys high and faces south, presenting an overall four-window front with late 19th-century and 20th-century wooden casements, along with a 20th-century glass-walled conservatory to the left of the door, which is under a gabled corrugated iron roof. To the right of the door, the head beam of the barn entry is partly exposed. The late 19th-century rear extension serves as a store with a hay loft above.
Inside the cottage, there is a chamfered beam with run-out stops and a large rubble fireplace with an oak lintel, also chamfered with run-out stops, along with some original joinery and fittings.
