Description
This is a poultry house, probably from the 19th century, located approximately 2 metres east of Higher Stiniel in Chagford. It is constructed of granite rubble and features a thatched roof. The building is small and situated near the lower end of Higher Stiniel. It has a small 20th-century window facing the farmhouse and a door at the rear. The roof is hipped at both ends. The interior has not been inspected. This poultry house is notable as an unusual example of an agricultural building that retains its thatched roof. Additionally, Stiniel is a particularly picturesque hamlet on Dartmoor, and this poultry house adds to the character of a group of listed buildings that includes three significant farmhouses: Higher Stiniel, Stenhall, and Stenhall Cottage.
