Description
This poultry house, located approximately 10 meters east of Chapple Farmhouse, likely dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed from granite stone rubble with large dressed quoins and has a corrugated iron roof, which was originally thatch. The building is positioned across a slope and faces south. It was originally designed as a row of four pigsties, each featuring a low front door with a feeding hatch to the right. Some of the openings have been blocked over time. The outer two pigsties are separated by stone crosswalls, while the middle two remain undivided. Above, there is a continuous hayloft with a central loading hatch, and the roof has a gable end. Inside, the carpentry is plain, and there is a replacement 20th-century roof. This poultry house is part of a group of attractive listed buildings that includes Chapple Farmhouse and West Chapple, contributing to the character of the hamlet of Chapple.
