Description
The lambing or calf shelter, located approximately 35 metres east of the east corner of Postlip Hall, dates from the 19th century. It is constructed from limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The structure is small and circular, measuring about 4 metres in diameter and 2 metres to the plate height of its conical roof. On the east side, there is an opening with cut stone jambs and a flat lintel, which once had a door frame, along with a small opening in the roof above this doorway. Internally, the shelter is divided into three stalls, each with partitions approximately 1.2 metres high, and there are two doors of the same height. Above, there is a small storage platform with a hay rack. The shelter is built into the hillside on the west side and initially resembles an ice-house, but it likely served as a nursery for lambs or calves requiring special care.
