Description
The Old Bakehouse is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century. It features square-panelled timber framing with rendered infill, set on a plinth made of rubble and coursed squared and dressed limestone. The left side of the gable end was originally part of the structure but has since been rebuilt in brick, while the left gable end remains rendered. The thatched roof has decorative ridge thatching, and the former ashlar stack has also been rebuilt in brick. The main body of the cottage is rectangular and stands at one and a half storeys.
The front of the building, facing the road, includes from left to right: a 19th-century three-light casement window with horizontal glazing bars, a 20th-century plank door with a single glazed pane set within an 18th-century doorcase, a six-pane sash window, and a 20th-century three-light wooden casement window with a transom. There are two eyebrow dormers, one two-light and one three-light, with the latter dating from the 19th century, both featuring fixed triangular lights on either side. A 20th-century two-light roof dormer is also present.
On the right gable end, there is a small 20th-century single-light casement window and a two-light steel casement window on the first floor. The left gable end has a single 20th-century two-light casement window. The building has an axial stack and a projecting stack that was likely originally axial. The interior has not been inspected. A 20th-century flat-roofed extension at the rear is not considered of special interest.
