Description
No. 24 is a cottage located on the B4213 in Lower Apperley, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with an enlargement in the mid-19th century and minor alterations in the 20th century. The cottage features brick-nogged timber framing, render, and a tiled roof. It has three bays and is one room deep, standing at 1½ storeys. The house is gabled towards the road, with a left return that includes single and two-light casements, a single-storey brick porch with a boarded door and a gable above, and a two-light casement to the left with an iron opening light. Above, there is a triangular dormer from the eaves with a two-light casement and decorative barge boards. A chimney is located on the ridge behind the porch and another just behind the ridge on the right gable. The gable is rendered, with the framing painted on, and features a 20th-century casement window on each floor, along with decorative barge boards similar to those on the dormer. This cottage is noted as the most ornamental example of the Apperley Court estate cottages.
