Description

Elfstone Hollow is a small house, likely dating from the early 18th century, with a later 19th-century enlargement and 20th-century alterations. The house is built with brick nogging on a brick plinth, and has a thatched roof, with a tiled and brick extension. It is originally three bays, two storeys high, and one room deep, with a single-bay, single-storey extension to the left and a 20th-century wing at the rear. The gable faces the road. The left return has a late 20th-century brick wing with a two-light casement window beneath a cambered brick arch. The timber frame features heavy main posts and floor beams, two panels high. A two-light casement window with leaded lights is on the left, and single- and two-light casements are on the right. A single-storey gabled brick porch has been added to the left return, with a door and a two-light casement window in the gable. There are three two-light casement windows above. An external brick chimney is at the left end, and a larger chimney with a brick gathering is at the road end. A lean-to has been added to the road end. The rear wing is of little architectural interest. The house forms a group with Cooks Green Farmhouse and barn nearby.
