Description

A barn and adjoining building, dating from the late 17th century and the first half of the 18th century. The barn is constructed of English bond brickwork, while the end section is brick-nogged timber framing. The barn is six bays long, with an off-centre porch on one side, flanked by later lean-tos. A two-bay lofted extension is attached to the house end. The front facade has a plinth, two rows of staggered ventilation slits, a double boarded door off-centre to the right, and a four-pane window at the right end. The timber-framed end on the right features a three-panel door and a two-light casement window. A weathervane sits on the ridge at the left end, with a half-hip to the right. Internally, the barn has tie-beam trusses with collar and angle struts, a single pair of purlins, and a square ridge. A C20 loft is present on the right side. The lean-to on the left gable is not of special interest. The property forms a group with the nearby farmhouse and Elfstone Hollow.
