Description
The Old Post House is a house built in 1604 for John James, with later additions and alterations in the early and late 20th century. It is located on the north side of Stanton High Street. The front right section is constructed of well-squared, coursed stone, while the rest is of less well-squared stone, with a stone slate roof. The building has an 'L' shape, with a 2-bay front and a gable and 2-bay left return. It is two and a half storeys in height.
The road-facing facade features mullioned windows with hoodmoulds. The gable on the right has a plinth and a 6-light window with a king mullion and ovolo moulding, with a datestone situated above it. Below this is a 4-light window of a similar design; a 2-light window sits within the attic space. The gable has a parapet and a cross-gablet apex. To the left, slightly set back, is a section of yellower stone. This contains a late 20th century glazed door set within a double-ovolo door surround, with a Tudor arch and hoodmould. A two-light ovolo-moulded window is located to the left of the door. Above this is a gabled dormer with a 2-light casement. A ridge chimney with a moulded cap is situated to the right of the door. The rear wing has a hipped end that adjoins the main building.
The left return has a gable with a 3-light plain mullioned window. To the left, slightly raised, is a 2-light ovolo-moulded window with a hoodmould. A 2-light ovolo-moulded window sits in the gable. A boarded door, also with a Tudor arch and hoodmould, is set to the left, alongside a single-light ovolo-moulded window with a hoodmould. A 2-light casement is located above this in a gabled dormer. A ridge chimney with a moulded cap sits on the left gable.
