Description

This is a stable or outbuilding located at the rear of Number 67 in Tewkesbury, dating from the 18th century or early 19th century. The building features Flemish bond brickwork and a tiled roof. It is a small, free-standing structure situated at the back of the plot, adjacent to the party fence of the Black Bear Inn.

The building is two stories high with a single-span design, featuring gables that are coped in brick and a parapet on the north side, which adjoins the Inn. On the west end, facing the river, there is a large sash window at the first-floor level that was originally 12-paned but has been modified to a 6-pane window due to the loss of horizontal bars. Below this window, there is a similar opening that has been altered to accommodate a door and a casement window. Both openings are adorned with brick voussoirs and a very narrow fluted key, a feature not found elsewhere in Tewkesbury.

The north side of the building has a large arch that contains a set-back brick blocking with an inserted door. To the left of this arch, there is a large external stack with offsets, cropped above the parapet, along with remnants of stacks at both ends of the building. On the south side, which faces the Riverside Hotel, there is a row of shallow casements at ground level, and above them is a small casement window. To the left of this window, there is a blocked opening with voussoirs. On this side, the roof extends down to eaves. The gable facing the street is timber-framed, with new brickwork nogging. The interior has not been inspected.
