Description
This is an outbuilding block located to the north of Bertholey, constructed of rubble stone and featuring a hipped slate valley roof with deep flat eaves and a single brick chimney situated in the valley. The building is two stories high and has a range of five windows. The eastern front displays four square 9-pane sash windows on the first floor, which are in poor condition, framed by brick voussoirs and a central round window set in a moulded stucco surround, with a decorative panel beneath. The ground floor includes three doors and two windows, all featuring red brick heads and thin red brick relieving arches. A raised plinth is interrupted by the three doors, and beneath the first window on the left, there is a basement opening with a depressed-arched head and keystone, also with a relieving arch above.
The end walls each have a similar two-window arrangement, with ground floor doors on the southern end and ground floor windows above two depressed-arched basement doors on the northern end. The western front also has five windows, with square first-floor windows that have brick voussoirs and were formerly fitted with 9-pane sashes. The ground floor features a central doorway flanked by two windows on each side, although the left window is blocked.
Attached at right angles and set back from the main building is a two-storey whitewashed block, identified as a stable, with a half-hipped corrugated iron roof on the right. This stable has a door flanked by windows on both floors, with the upper door positioned directly above the lower door's timber lintel. It also has board shutters and an additional window on the extreme left of the ground floor.
To the right end of this range, there is a later 19th-century addition consisting of two parallel single-storey ranges with yellow brick heads over the openings. The paired end gables feature a large window and stable door on the left gable, while the right gable is twice as wide with a window on each side of the door, topped with a roundel. The building is adorned with wavy bargeboards and has a tall chimney on the ridge of the inner range. At the rear, there is a lower one-storey lean-to with a rounded corner to the northwest and two windows facing north.
As the ground falls to the north, there is a vaulted cellar beneath, above which is a cider mill that retains some lower stonework. A few timbers of the ceiling remain in this room.
