Description
No. 4, Mill Bank is a 16th-century house in a row, originally part of a pair but now distinct from the adjacent No. 5. The house is timber-framed with painted brickwork, and has a tile roof with a large brick stack on the left-hand side, which adjoins but is separate from the stack of No. 5. The first floor has an early two-light casement window alongside a 19th-century two-light casement, both set within a stud frame division. On the ground floor, there is a two-light casement window and a stable-type door. The roof is very steep. The interior retains substantial original frame members, including a diagonal brace in the party wall, ceiling joists, and a large beam also in the party wall at the first floor. Rafters are pegged to purlins.
