Description
Glenbrook is a detached house dated 1849, constructed from hard red brick with some decorative blue headers. The roof features plain and fish-scale tiles, along with decorative tile cresting. This compact Victorian Gothic villa is richly detailed, showcasing two principal gables and two smaller gables on the main front, as well as two gables on the right return, each with gable stacks that have moulded shafts. The house is two storeys high and has four windows, featuring 2 and 3-light ovolo mould mullioned casements set in flush stone surrounds with alternating quoins, some of which include transoms. The central plank door is set in a 4-centred arch and located within a gabled porch that has decorative barge boards. There is an oriel on brackets on the right return. Notably, in the right-hand gable on the first floor front, there is a sunk stone panel displaying the date. It is reputed that this building was constructed by a Rector of Alderton. Glenbrook remains externally unspoiled and exhibits a high standard of craftsmanship and decoration.
