Description

The Granville monument and railings are located in the churchyard attached to the east end of the chancel of the Church of St Michael in Buckland. This chest tomb dates from the first half of the 18th century and was restored in 1865. It is made of stone and wrought iron, featuring a flat lid with a moulded edge, and the ends of the side panels are slightly raised to resemble plain pilasters. The monument is built against the east end of the chancel and is surrounded by simple iron railings on three sides, which have pointed tops. The monument commemorates Colonel Bernard Granville, who died in 1725, and his wife, who died in 1747. They lived at the Manor House and were the parents of Mrs. Delany. The monument was restored by a descendant.
