Description
Upper Farm is a farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with an extension added in 1806 on the gable end facing the road. The building is constructed of brick on a limestone plinth and features a stone slate roof, with brick stacks. The early 19th-century extension has a corrugated asbestos roof. The main body of the farmhouse has an 'L'-shaped plan, with the early 18th-century extension at the gable end facing the road. There is a lean-to structure against the left-hand return of this wing, and a slate-roofed single-storey extension to the left gable end of the main body, which is not of special interest. The main body is two storeys high and has two and three-light stone-mullioned casements, along with the 1806 extension. One window features flat-chamfered limestone jambs but now has a three-light steel casement inserted. A window below has been altered to include a 20th-century glazed door. The 1806 extension is also two storeys high and includes a pitching window shutter with pigeon holes in the gable end facing the road and in the right-hand return, indicating that the first floor may have originally served an agricultural purpose.
