Description
Tirley Court is a large detached house that dates from the 17th century, with later additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior has been refaced in painted brick in the late 19th to early 20th century, featuring a blue lias plinth and a red tile roof with brick stacks. The main body of the house is rectangular, with a wing extending back to the rear right that was rebuilt in the late 19th to early 20th century. There is a 19th-century extension to the left gable end of the main body, and additional extensions at the rear from the 19th and 20th centuries, which are not of special interest.
The house has two storeys and an attic, with a cellar at the right-hand end. The attic is lit by two triangular 20th-century roof dormers that contain 2-light casements. The ground and first floors feature 2, 3, and 4-light stone-mullioned casements with transoms and stopped hoods, along with a single light window located off-centre to the left. A 19th-century four-panelled door with marginal lights on either side is positioned off-centre to the right, set within a late 19th to early 20th-century portico supported by Doric columns. The house was formerly known as Corse Court and was occupied by the Lords of the Manor in the 16th and early 17th centuries, as noted by monuments inside Tirley church. The interior is not accessible.
