Description
The Sheep Market Office in Tewkesbury is a former office building associated with the Sheep Market, now disused. It dates from the mid-19th century and features Flemish bond brickwork with a tiled roof. The structure consists of a single room and is attached to the south side of The Albion, which is not included in this listing. The building has a rhomboidal plan with a gable facing the street and a splayed corner, topped with a bell turret.
The street front displays a stone-coped gable above a two-light cast-iron fixed casement window, which has horizontal bars and is set beneath a stone flush lintel and stone cill. On the right side, there is a plank door accompanied by a three-pane transom light. The splayed corner features an angled bay window with a configuration of four, nine, and four panes, sheltered by a projecting roof. A dilapidated timber turret with a tent-roof octagonal crown, which once housed a bell, is also present. Inside, a corner fireplace is served by a stack.
This building is depicted on the 1883 Ordnance Survey map and is believed to have functioned as a checking office related to market activities, serving as a historical reminder of the town's past.
