Description
Rake End Cottage is a detached house dated 'T C 1713'. It is built from coursed and squared rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. The cottage is two storeys high with an attic and features an altered parallel roofed rear range.
The front has a three-window arrangement, with three-light casements on the ground floor that have a combining hoodmould rising over a cambered-arched stone lintel above the central doorway, which also bears the date inscription. There are two outer two-light casements on the upper floor and a central single-light window, all fitted with iron casements. The cottage has two hipped attic dormers and gable end chimneys with moulded caps, including a paired shaft at the south-west end.
At the north-east end, there is an off-centre projecting bread oven with a stone slate roof. Above, there are two single-light stair windows. The rear wing has 20th-century mullioned windows. The interior has not been inspected.
