Description

Ruscombe Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with alterations from the 17th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of random rubble and ashlar limestone, featuring ashlar and artificial stone chimneys, and has a stone slate roof. The building is two stories high with an attic and has a cross-wing at the east end.

The south front of the farmhouse has the main part of the building on the left, which features a two-window arrangement. All windows are three-light recessed cavetto mullioned casements with hoodmoulds, and there is a two-light upper floor casement to the left. The central cross-passage doorway has a chamfered opening and a hoodmould. There are two ridge-mounted chimneys on this range. The projecting gable end of the cross-wing to the right has a single-window arrangement, with a 19th-century enlarged ground floor three-light window, a three-light window above, and an attic recessed chamfered two-light window, all with hoodmoulds. The ground floor is finished in ashlar masonry, while the upper part is rubble, which may suggest that the cross-wing was originally timber framed.

On the east end, there is a chimney gable to the left and three two-light casements to the right, one of which is blocked at low level. The north side features a two-window arrangement similar to the south side, with a cross-passage and doorway. The ground floor has a two-light window to the left with Tudor arched lights, which may be an early 16th-century window, and there is a small stair-light at the right end.

Inside, there is a stone spiral stair at the west gable end, and one room contains a beam supported on a large stone corbel. There is also a barn located to the southeast of the farmhouse.
