Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Quakers Close, formerly known as Box Cottage, are likely from the mid to late 17th century. The building is two storeys high, constructed of painted rubble with a stone tile roof and features two chimneys. On the left side, there is a large gable with a saddlestone, a blocked roof space, and attic windows. The first and second floor windows are irregular, with one on each floor set into the gable, featuring drip moulds and set back chamfered mullions. To the right of the gable, the doorway for No. 1 has a Tudor arch with an ogee moulded surround and a drip over a deep lintel, along with a plain chamfered 2-light mullion window above. The door for No. 2 is a modern addition with a wooden lintel and a large window. The rear elevation is similar to the front, while the elevation facing New Market Road is more regular.
