Description

Chestnut Hill House is an early to mid-18th century building, with later additions, situated on the south-west side of Chestnut Hill. The central part of the house is constructed of coursed and dressed rubble, with a band above the ground floor. It has a stone tile roof and irregular ashlar chimneys, one featuring a moulded capping. The front facade originally had three windows, now featuring 19th-century sash windows with raised surrounds, a pulvinated frieze, and a pediment above the central first-floor window. Ground-floor French windows lead to a terraced verandah, and a doorway to the left has a tented canopy and a four-panel door with a transom light. An extension was added to the right side in 1888, and a two-bay extension to the left. Dormers with bargeboards are set into the gables. The northeast end of the building shows work from the later 18th and early 19th centuries. A three-gabled brick extension forms part of the rear. A quadrant entrance faces a garden entrance to The Deverells.
