Description

PAINSWICK WICK STREET SO 80 NE (west side) 5/363 Boundary and garden walls, gates, piers and gazebo at Wick Street House GV II Walls to road and enclosing garden to east and south of house, piers, gates and gazebo. Mostly C17, but some C20 work, probably by Detmar Blow. Limestone, some ashlar, some squared, some dry stone. To road, a pair of square piers with domed caps and ball finials, opposite entrance door and with chinoiserie gates to strap hinges, flanked by walls with brick inner lining. To right, wall returns to house in squared stone to weathered coping, a single gate and gate pier at junction with house. To left the wall runs back, swept down to pair of gates, then to gazebo to semi-circular plan on stone base, to semi-dome with stone slate carried on wood structure at intermediate level; wall then returns. to house and pair of gates in pair of large square piers. A fine complement to the house (q.v.), and containing the sundial (q.v.).
