Description

The boundary and garden walls, gates, piers, and gazebo at Wick Street House are mostly from the 17th century, with some 20th-century work likely by Detmar Blow. The structures are made of limestone, featuring some ashlar, squared stone, and dry stone.

Along the road, there are a pair of square piers topped with domed caps and ball finials, positioned opposite the entrance door. These piers support chinoiserie gates on strap hinges and are flanked by walls that have a brick inner lining. To the right, the wall extends back to the house, constructed of squared stone with weathered coping, and includes a single gate and gate pier at the junction with the house.

To the left, the wall sweeps down to a pair of gates and leads to a gazebo with a semi-circular plan on a stone base. The gazebo features a semi-dome with stone slate supported by a wooden structure at an intermediate level. The wall then returns to the house, where there is another pair of gates set between large square piers. This ensemble serves as a fine complement to the house and includes a sundial.
