Description
The Malthouse, Brooks Cottage, and two adjoining houses to the south form a row of four houses built in the late 17th century and early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed and random rubble limestone, with ashlar and various rebuilt chimneys, topped by a stone slate roof. The buildings are two stories high with an attic.
The Malthouse is located on the right side, while the house at the southern end faces gable-end towards the road. This southern house features two gables, each with a cut-down chimney. The central doorway has a plank door and a flat timber porch hood, with scattered timber casements throughout. The Malthouse has a single gable and a two-window arrangement; the ground floor has timber casements, while the upper floor features 20th-century metal casements, along with a single 20th-century attic casement. The central doorway of the Malthouse has a raised rendered surround and a 20th-century door. The two central houses have segmental arched window openings with 20th-century replaced casements, one of which has enlarged ground floor window openings. Each house also has a segmental arched doorway. The interiors have not been inspected. This row of houses is included for its group value.
