Description

Four Winds is a former school house, now a detached house, which is linked by an archway to the former school hall. The school house is said to have been built in 1846 but appears to be from a later date, possibly by Benjamin Bucknall. The school hall was constructed in 1865 by S.S. Teulon. The building is made of coursed and dressed limestone, with ashlar chimneys, a concrete tile roof on the school house, and a stone slate roof on the school hall.

The structure is two-storey, with the school hall located to the southeast and connected by an archway. There is a single-storey outbuilding to the north. The school house is positioned alongside the road, featuring a full gable to the left with a chimney that has a chamfered shaft. Below this, there is a 2-light flat mullioned casement window on the upper floor. To the right, there is an eaves-mounted chimney with a similar shaft. A flat corner buttress to the right has a trefoil head.

On the south side, there is a rectangular single-storey bay window with a hipped roof, which has a mullioned and transomed casement window, along with paired lancet vents in the apex. The contemporary outbuilding to the north features a circular opening in the gable end facing the road. The south end of the school hall has parapet gabled ends with a 4-light pointed geometrical traceried window. The west side has two 2-light plate-traceried windows with small gables above, separated by a buttress. There is a flat-roofed addition on the east side, which is not of special interest. The interiors have not been inspected.
