Description
Virginia Cottage and Primrose Cottage is a former farmhouse that has been converted into two houses, dating from the early to mid-17th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and features a stone slate roof. It is a single-storey structure with an attic.
The front of the building has two gables. The left gable is part of Virginia Cottage and includes a doorway with a four-panel door and a two-light chamfered mullioned casement beneath a combined hoodmould, along with a two-light window with a hoodmould in the gable above. To the left, there are two 19th-century restored three-light casements and a gabled attic roof dormer. The right side, Primrose Cottage, features a gable with a doorway and a three-light casement under a combined hoodmould, along with a three-light casement above. There is also a further ground floor three-light window to the left and a gabled attic roof dormer above. The building has ridge-mounted chimneys with plain caps.
The west end has a rebuilt gable end with an attached outbuilding. The rear of the building has two gables and a mix of mullioned and later windows. There is a 20th-century addition to Primrose Cottage. The interiors have not been inspected. Originally, this building was part of Mugmoor Farm.
