Description
Fern Cottage is a small detached house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of random rubble limestone, which is now painted, with a rendered brick chimney and a concrete plain tile roof. The house is two stories high with an attic.
The front of the cottage features a two-window arrangement. On the ground floor, the right window is a three-light chamfered mullioned casement with a hoodmould, while to the left is a timber casement with a timber lintel. The upper floor has two two-light chamfered mullioned casements. There is a central doorway that is sheltered by a planked gabled porch. A large central 20th-century gabled roof dormer is also present.
At the west end, there is a lean-to addition that is not considered of special interest. The east end of the cottage has a gable end with a three-light ground floor casement and a two-light casement on the upper floor and attic, both featuring hoodmoulds and relieving arches. The cottage is built into a bank at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
