Description

The Gables is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century, likely built around the 1840s. It is constructed of coursed and dressed rubble with a Cotswold stone roof to the south. The building has two and a half storeys and features two attic gables with a short parapet across the valley. There are two-light, three-centred arch headed mullion windows with drips, paired on the ground and first floors; the attic windows retain patterned head glazing. A large, tented verandah porch is supported by cast and wrought iron trelliswork. To the north, additional windows retain patterned head glazing, and a central pair of doors are set within a Tudor arch head. The house was likely originally the foreman's house for the adjacent Dunkirk Mills.
