Description
Dunkirk Manor, located on Watledge Road in Theescombe, is a Grade II* listed building that was remodeled around 1800 for John Cooper, a miller, incorporating older structures. The building features ashlar and rendering and stands three storeys tall with seven windows that have glazing bar sashes and architraves. It has a continuous cill on the first floor, a moulded string course at the second floor level, and a moulded cornice with a blocking course. The central three windows are topped with a bracketed pediment that includes a large carved rosette. The left side of the building has three windows and a two-storey angled bay to the right, highlighting that the current house is a reworking of a previous two-storey house. A plain Tuscan portico with walled-up sides is present at the entrance. The rear courtyard contains features from around 1700, such as a plinth and a mullion window with a drip, along with a two-arch loggia from 1877 that supports a bathroom. An auxiliary building connects to a pavilion on the north side. Inside, there are late 18th-century style fireplaces with rosettes and paterae on the ground floor.
