Description
Penn House is a detached house, now serving as a home for the retired, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The building is rendered with a hipped slate roof and ashlar stacks. It has a squarish shape with an extension in the northwest corner and stands two storeys tall.
The south front features three window bays, with the central bay being round-headed and having a radial top sash, while the other two bays have imitation painted 12-pane sashes. There is a central recessed doorcase with a plain cemented surround, a semi-circular soffit, and a decorative radial fanlight above a door that has two glazed panels and four fielded panels, accessed by three stone steps.
The west front has five windows, all of which are 12-pane sashes on both floors. Internal shutters are still present. Although the interior is not accessible, it may contain features of interest.
To the west, there are gatepiers made of coursed rubble with dressed stone quoins, topped with layered pyramidal copings and a finial remaining on the left-hand pier, standing about 2 meters tall.
