Description
Berrymore Cottages are two houses located on the south side of Selsley Road in North Woodchester. They date from the mid 17th century, with additions made in the mid 18th century. The cottages are constructed from random and coursed rubble limestone, featuring concrete rebuilt ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof.
The buildings are two-storey with an attic, and there is a single-storey with attic addition to the east end, along with a lean-to at the front. The front elevation has a two-window arrangement with a gable on the right side. The lean-to addition obscures the right ground floor casement. The windows include 3-light ovolo moulded mullioned casements with hoodmoulds and a 2-light attic casement in the gable, some of which have leading. There is a central doorway with a timber lintel and a plank door. A small gabled attic dormer with a timber casement is also present. The lower part on the left has mixed casements and a blocked doorway.
At the rear, the fenestration mirrors that of the front but includes some 20th-century replacements. There is a doorway to the right with a gabled porch hood. The west end features a gable-mounted chimney and two small single-light attic casements in the gable. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to contain a stone spiral staircase.
