Description

Oakley House is a large detached house dating from 1840, built for T.P. Dunn. It is constructed from ashlar and coursed rubble limestone, with ashlar chimneys and a Welsh slate roof. The main house is two storeys high with a cellar at the east end, and it is accompanied by a parallel two-storey rear range extending to the west, and an attached coach house to the northeast corner.

The front elevation is composed of three blocks, the central one projecting forward and each having a separate hipped roof. The central block features a large tripartite sash window on the ground floor, with a 24-pane central sash, and three 16-pane upper floor sashes. A single 18-pane sash is present on the right side, serving the cellar. The outer blocks each have two windows, with tall 18-pane sashes on the ground floor providing access to an iron balcony on the right-hand block, and 12-pane sashes to the upper floors, with one 16-pane sash. Eaves-mounted chimneys are located on the east side of each block.

The west side has a gabled rear range recessed to the left, with a glazed porch set into the angle. An outshut projecting to the right at the east end features a ground floor two-light Tudor-headed casement window with a hoodmould. The coach house extends further to the right, with a variety of casement windows. The interior has not been inspected. A window pane bears the inscription 'this house built 1840 by T.P. Dunn'.
