Description
Well House is a mid-18th century dwelling located in Wotton-under-Edge. The building is rendered with stone dressings, featuring alternating quoins on three corners, a modillion cornice, and corresponding pilaster caps at the first-floor level, along with moulded parapet coping. It has a stone slate roof and is a free-standing block with a hipped roof, plus a narrow wing at the right end facing Market Street.
The structure has three storeys and five windows, with original sash windows and glazing bars set in moulded stone architraves. The ground floor features detached moulded hoods above the windows. The central entrance consists of an eight-panel fielded door within a moulded architrave, topped with a simple pediment on consoles. The wing is set on a rendered stone plinth and includes two Venetian windows with sashes and bars, a plain arched light, and a blind opening on the top floor. There is also an arched staircase window at the back. Inside, there are good contemporary panelled doors, a staircase, and a panelled room on the bottom floor to the left, which includes fluted pilasters and a triglyph frieze.
