Description

Brides Cottage is a detached cottage, possibly dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed with square panel timber framing, rendered infill, and a dressed stone basement. A stone wing extends to the right, and the roof is thatched with a decorative ridge, half-hipped to the left and front gable ends. A large, stepped ashlar external stack with an offset and moulded cornice, and a lean-to at its base, is located on the right side. A smaller stone ridge stack, originally at the left end, now sits on the ridge, with the left-hand side having been slightly enlarged and buttressed by a raking brick buttress at the front. The cottage has a T-shape plan with a basement beneath the projecting front gable; the remainder of the building is single-storey with an attic. The front gable features a 3-light stone mullion with a square hoodmould on the basement level, and 20th-century leaded casements above. The right-hand side, set back, includes a chamfered stone Tudor archway with a 20th-century vertical battened door, and a plain 2-light stone mullion to the right. The interior is not accessible but is likely to be of interest.
