Description
Teekles Court is a detached house with an early 17th-century core, enlarged in the later 17th century and again, probably in the 18th century. The house is constructed of coursed and dressed stone with a tile roof. The south end of the original core has a coped verge and an external stone stack stepped on one side, with a replaced double flue. A stone end stack is present on the gable end of the late 17th-century wing. The building forms a nearly L-shape, with a two-room core to the east and a narrow wing attached to the west, which was originally an outbuilding and later extended in the 18th century. The house is two storeys and has an attic. The original entrance appears to have been on the west side, now visible as a cut-off chamfered Tudor arch and a short chamfered spine beam with run-out stops above, built into the thickness of the wall. A single stone light to the left has a square hoodmould cut into it to accommodate the later wing. The east side of this wing has 3-light and 2-light stone mullioned windows with square hoodmoulds to the ground floor only. On the south side, there is similar fenestration, including small single lights to each side of the stack in the attic and a 2-light window to the first and ground floors on the right. All south-facing windows have square hoodmoulds. A newel stair was formerly on the gable end stack, but is now mostly removed. The interior includes chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and timber-frame partition walls. The core also has several 3-centred internal doorways and one original plank door on the first floor.
