Description
Betworthy Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with an 19th-century extension. It is constructed of squared and coursed limestone, with a double Roman tile roof. The building is L-shaped, with a short gabled return to the left, and features a main gable stack. A smaller stack is located off-centre to the right, positioned on the line of the original outer gable, with one bay added in the 19th century. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, and originally had four windows. The windows are stone mullioned casements with stopped drips on the first floor; the two bays to the left retain the original mullions, while other windows are 20th-century casements set within wooden lintels. There are two small louvred gable dormers on the main roof, and one similar on the left return. The front entrance is a 17th-century plank door set within a modern gabled porch, centered on the original three-window front. The roof structure is substantial, with heavy chamfered beams, collar and tie beams, and heavy pegging.
