Description

Selsdon is a house that forms the left half of a pair, built in the early 18th century. It features a front made of limestone ashlar with a squared and coursed gable, topped by a concrete tile roof. The house has a tall, narrow front with two bays and stands three storeys high with an attic. It includes 12-pane sash windows set in moulded architraves, which have eared details on the ground and first floors, and are adorned with triple projecting keystones above a pulvinated frieze leading to moulded closed pediments. The window cills are supported by small consoles.

To the right, there is a four-panel fielded door that has a five-pane overlight, framed by an architrave and frieze with a pediment similar to that of the windows. Full-height rusticated pilasters flank the door, leading up to a richly moulded eaves cornice. A two-light dormer from the 20th century is present, and the back wall features a two-light chamfer-mullion casement window. A gable stack is located on the left side, and there are four varied small openings low in the gable. The front of the house is compact and unusually ornate, and it may have been built for the Bryan family, who were stonemasons responsible for some memorials in the churchyard.
