Description
Day by Day is a small shop located on the north west side of Friday Street in Painswick. It is an end-of-row building that may have originally been a workshop. While it has some remains from the 16th century, the building is primarily constructed from 19th or 20th century materials. The exterior features cut squared limestone and a concrete tile roof. It is a small remnant of a structure that was partially demolished during World War II. The building is 1½ storeys tall; on the left side, there is a large fanlight above a 20th century shop front and door, set under a brick arch, while the right side has a small segmental headed light. The left gable is now exposed and shows remnants of a stack and a pair of crucks built into the wall, which is rendered. Inside, there is another pair of crucks with a single purlin and one brace from former wind bracing, and some of the rafters in the rear roof slope are early. The cruck does not have a tie or collar. Although the front of the building may seem unremarkable, it conceals significant early structural elements.
