Description

The stables and coach house, located approximately 30 meters southeast of Pitchcombe House, date from the mid to late 18th century. They are constructed from coursed and squared rubble limestone and feature a stone slate roof. The building is two stories with an attic at the south end, which reduces to a single story at the north end due to the rising ground level.

The south end has a full gable facing the road, with a single window above a doorway that has a chamfered opening and a hoodmould, leading to a plank door. The upper floor has a three-light window, while the attic features a two-light casement, both of which are recessed and have chamfered mullions with lead latticed glazing. A sundial is present in the gable, although it is now missing its gnomon.

On the west side, there are full gables at either end of the stable range. The south end includes a coach doorway with a timber lintel and a single window above, similar to the south gable end, but with a row of pigeon holes and an oval vent above the attic casement. The left gable has similar window arrangements, with rows of upper floor casements that are either two or three-light, all featuring hoodmoulds and lead latticed glazing. There is also an upper floor doorway with a plank door. At the rear, there are two eaves-level gabled loft dormers. Inside, some stable fittings have been retained in the northern half of the range.
