Description
The Red Lion is a former farmhouse and barn, dating to the mid-17th century, with early 19th-century additions and alterations. It is now a detached house. The construction is of random rubble limestone, now painted, with ashlar and rendered chimneys, and a concrete tile roof. The building has a T-plan with an attached former barn and outbuilding range.
On the south side, the windows are scattered; two 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements with hoodmoulds are present on each floor, and a doorway is positioned to the right, with a single-light casement to its left. A central 20th-century flat-roofed dormer sits above, and a ridge-mounted chimney is located to the left of centre. A long, single-storey outbuilding range projects forward to the right, with altered casement windows and plank doors. The projecting gable end on the west side has a single window to the ground floor, a 2-light casement above, and an attic window. A lean-to conservatory has been added to the ground floor. A segmental arched doorway leads to a former cellar, along with a 20th-century casement window with a concrete lintel, and a chamfered mullioned 2-light casement with a hoodmould on the upper floor; a flat-roofed 20th-century dormer is also present. The east gable end is mostly obscured by a lean-to. The north side has two gables, the left one originally belonging to the barn, and a chimney with a moulded cap to the right gable. The building was once a public house.
