Description

This is a former inn with stables, dating back to around 1800. It is now a detached house. The building is constructed from coursed, dressed limestone, with brick rebuilt chimneys and a concrete tile roof.

The north front has a two-window arrangement, positioned off-centre to the left. It features 16-pane sash windows on the ground and middle floors, with a single-storey canted bay window to the right containing 4-pane sashes, and an 8-pane sash above. A doorway is positioned between these windows, housing a six-panel door and a rectangular window above. A large, rebuilt chimney is located towards the right. A painted inn sign is positioned below, advertising "THE NELSON INN - STROUD BREWERY / ALES AND STOUT / WINES & SPIRITS". To the left of the main house are stables, featuring stairs and casement windows to the loft space.

The west side has a central 16-pane sash window on the ground floor. Above this is a three-light chamfered mullioned casement window with a hoodmould, and a two-light window above. A doorway with a six-panel door is positioned to the right. A lean-to outshut with a corrugated iron roof is located at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. The building was originally constructed to serve canal boatmen using the nearby Thames and Severn Canal.
