Description

Manor Cottage and Linden Cottage are two houses formed from a formerly detached dwelling, originally dating to 1652, with an 18th-century addition. The building is constructed of random rubble limestone with ashlar detailing and rebuilt chimneys of brick. The roof is covered in stone slates. The two-storey main house has a rear wing and two gabled front elevations, each topped with a cross-roll saddle. The windows are mostly 20th-century timber casements on the left gable; the right gable retains more original windows – three-light recessed casements with a cavetto moulding. One window is in the attic and two are on each of the other floors, with one ground-floor window replaced by a timber casement. A round-arched doorway is positioned centrally, featuring moulded imposts, a keystone, and a hoodmould; the original wide-plank door retains early ironmongery. The keystone is dated 1652 and bears the initials JP, likely referring to John Phillips, a local clothier. A lower addition to the right has an early plank door and a small-pane timber casement above. The gabled ends of the front have rebuilt chimneys. The rear wing has a chimney with paired shafts and a moulded cap. The interior remains unexamined.
