Description

Burleigh Tower is a detached house built in the late 19th century, incorporating earlier farm buildings. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubble limestone, featuring ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. The building is two stories high with an attic and has an irregular plan, highlighted by a four-storey tower at the southeast corner.

The south front showcases two gables of differing heights, both adorned with shaped barge boards, with the left gable incorporating earlier masonry. There is a canted single-storey bay window on the left and several four-pane sash windows. A roughly central segmental arched doorway is located on the ground floor, which is accompanied by a long conservatory porch. The circular tower on the corner to the right has various small casement windows on the lower floors, while the upper part is left incomplete, featuring unglazed window openings, a crenellated parapet, and no roof, giving it a ruinous appearance.

On the east side, the crenellated parapet extends to the right from the tower. There is a full gable to the right with shaped barge boards and various four-pane sash windows. A 20th-century lean-to alteration on the ground floor includes large glazed doors. The north end features a crow-stepped gable. Burleigh Tower serves as a folly house situated on the edge of Minchinhampton Common.
