Description
Skiveralls House is a detached house dating to the late 17th century, with an upper floor added in the mid-18th century and further additions made in the early 19th century. The house is constructed of random and coursed rubble and ashlar limestone, with some areas of roughcast render. It has ashlar chimneys and roofs covered in stone slate and concrete tiles. The main house is three storeys high, with a parallel three-storey rear range. The front elevation has a scattered pattern of windows, mostly two-light casements with chamfered mullions; the ground floor windows are set beneath a continuous hood. An off-centre flat-roofed stone porch features a sculpted stone coat-of-arms. The added upper floor is rendered and has three three-light casements. Moulded eaves run along the roofline, and there are gable end chimneys. The rear elevation displays a line of earlier gables, and some blocked windows. An outshut is attached to the parallel range, and the fenestration of its east gable end has been altered, with the exception of a two-light upper floor leaded casement. The interior was not inspected. The house was likely enlarged to accommodate additional hand looms.
