Description

The Baptist Church and attached Sunday School, built in 1824 with a mid-19th century school addition, features coursed and dressed limestone, with ashlar used for the school. The roofs are covered in Welsh slate and plain tiles. The church is rectangular with a lobby at the west end, while the school is located to the north. There is a keeper's house in the basement.

The front of the church has a low-pitched parapet gable with a central lobby projection. It includes a central round-arched doorway with impost blocks, double glazed doors, and a fanlight. There are two round-arched windows on the lobby staircase with a linking sill band, and a central recessed round-arched panel above that displays raised capital lettering stating 'BAPTIST CHURCH/FOUNDED 1640'. Each side of the lobby features a single round-arched window on both levels. All church windows are fitted with glazing bar casements and fixed lights.

To the left, the school exhibits a Romanesque revival style front with a moulded open pediment and a central flat-roofed lobby projection. The lobby features a cornice and moulded round-arched openings on each face. There are two-light round-arched windows with moulded architraves and imposts, one on each side of the porch, both containing sashes and a moulded apron panel. An inscription panel with very small lettering is located within the main pediment, stating 'KING'S STANLEY BAPTIST SUNDAY SCHOOL'.

The south side has three round-arched windows on two levels, mirroring the front, while the north side features paired sashes. The school has two gabled roof dormers with round-arched windows. The rear of the church has two tall round-arched windows that are now blocked, along with various sash windows for the school and basement rooms.

Inside, the church has a simple interior with a compartment ceiling. A small gallery supported by three circular pillars features a panelled front, and there is a Gothic organ case. The building is prominently situated at the end of the main vista through Middle Yard.
