Description
The dovecote at the south west end of Dove Cottage is a mid to late 19th-century structure, likely built for S.S. Marling. It is constructed from coursed rubble limestone with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof. The dovecote is a three-storey square tower that is attached to the end of the house, which is not of special interest. The upper floor has two projecting bands that become perches on the south east side, featuring square pigeon holes. The front has a 20th-century small-paned metal casement window with a hoodmould. The lowest storey is built into the bank and has a round-arched doorway at the rear. The roof is boldly sprocketed and hipped, with exposed rafter ends and moulded timber eaves, topped with a large ball finial. It is situated in a picturesque position along a hillside road.
