Description
The Watch House is an early 19th-century house located on the northwest side of New Street in Painswick. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a narrow frontage that projects forward from the adjoining Nutgrove House, which likely contributes to its name by providing a view down New Street. The building has three storeys and a single window on the front and short return face. Architectural details include a plinth, a band, a cyma cornice, and a parapet blocking. The front facade displays a 2-light casement above a 4-pane sash, followed by a 20th-century casement and door. The return face has two blank window recesses above a 4-pane sash. Although the fenestration has been significantly modified, the building remains an important element of the street and is included primarily for its group value.
