Description

Ebworth Farm, which includes a stable and coach house, is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is constructed from large blocks of squared limestone, with some areas featuring normal coursed and squared stone, and has a concrete tile roof. The stable and coach building is situated at a higher elevation and is partly older than the farmhouse, which is located lower down, with the entire complex positioned across a steep slope.

The farmhouse, built in 1850, runs parallel to the service block and is three storeys high, featuring a three-storey porch and a low wing. The windows are mostly from the 20th century, although the wing has a two-light window with arched lights and an octagonal chimney stack. The upper block consists of two storeys.

On the far left, there are two wide openings with elliptical arches, complete with a raised band and keystone, supported by small pilasters with imposts. To the right of these openings, beneath a continuous moulded string, is a round-arched passageway, two three-light mullioned casements with arched lights, and a plank door set in a flush stone surround with an elliptical head. The extreme right features another three-light opening with an elliptical head and a plank door, also under a moulded string. This section likely dates back to the 16th century.

Above, there is a cored stone eaves cornice, with four flush gables, each featuring two-light mullioned casements and stopped hoods, similar to the windows below. One gable includes a large shouldered loading opening from the 19th century, situated beneath a small single light with a stopped hood. The building has a slight offset plinth.

On the right side, there is a two-light recessed ovolo mould mullioned casement from the 18th century under a stopped hood, below which a doorway has been blocked. The decorative barge-board indicates that the roof has been raised. The stables feature stone floors and well-crafted stall dividers, with one section also containing a hay loft. This complex is an important remnant associated with Ebworth Lane, which was demolished in the late 20th century.
