Description
Weighbridge House is a former office and store for the weighbridge at the east gate entry to the Gloucester Docks, built in 1849. The building is constructed of brick and has a stucco finish on the front and sides, with a felt roof that was originally slate and a central brick stack at the rear. It is a small rectangular structure positioned diagonally on the north-west corner of the junction of Southgate Street and the entry to the docks.
The exterior features a single storey with three unequal bays on the front, supported by pilasters capped with abaci, which hold up a plain architrave, cornice, and pediment. The end walls also display the same entablature and similar pediments. The front includes a central entrance doorway, with the door featuring two lower panels and an upper glazed panel. In the right-hand bay, there is a sash window with glazing bars arranged in a 4x4 pane configuration, set in an opening with a projecting stone sill. The interior has not been inspected. The building is designed in a plain classical style, similar to the lock keepers' cottages found along the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal.
